With Tension and Trauma Release Exercise®
Our nervous system is the body’s command centre, sending messages back and forth, between our brain and all other parts of your body. It also keeps track of what’s going on inside and outside of our body and decides how to respond to any situation we are in. On a simple level, our nervous systems are wired to detect whether we are safe or unsafe and responds accordingly. This serves us well in being able to escape or survive dangerous situations but also in helping us to be socially engaged with others around us, an essential part in keeping us well and helping us to thrive.
TRE® Is a somatic (body) based practice that uses a simple set of exercises to access the body's natural tremor mechanism. This tremor, or shaking mechanism helps to release the tension in our body and rebalance the nervous system into a sense of safety, allowing us to move from our stress response smoothly and easily and into our rest, restore and socially engaged state of being.
Practiced on a regular basis It may help to 'turn down' our fight or flight response, so that situations that may have been perceived as dangerous but might not have been, are no longer met with our stress response and we are able to remain calm and socially engaged, it may also help to free our body from the tension and pain we might be experiencing, allowing for greater range of movement and a feeling of lightness and fluidity.
